Ulu Kenyana? It doesn't ring bell to anyone. An isolated place in one of Sungai Mukah tributaries is believed as a breeding place for Arawana. Ya..arawana species...especially the gold one..may attract interest of arawana lovers. But the arawana here is a protected species.

After frustrated by the cancellation of the Man U trip to KL last year, ManU was in town on the 18July 2009. No ManU die hard fan would want to miss the opportunity to watch Giggs and co live. This was my second time, after the ManU visit in 1995, watching the ManU stars playing live!!My Ticket..the proof I was there

The ticket..though widely speculated that tickets were sold out..the National Stadium capacity of 100,000 seats is bigger than the Old Trafford..plenty of seats still available when we purchase ticket at the stadium.Surprisingly we met 2 Manchester girls in Bukit Jalil

The Bukit Jalil Stadium was painted in RED..the 100,000 capacity stadium is 95% full. It was fantastic environment that evening with everybody sportingly performed the Mexican Waves several times before the kick-off. Where were the Malaysia team supporters? Being a Malaysian, though supporting ManU...we still Malaysian at heart...amazingly the fans in Red also celebrated Amri's goals....

Its surprise to hear my kid sing "Beat It" in the car today. They never knew who MJ is nor what song he sings..suddenly the news about the death of "King of Pop" attracted them. Sadly, my kids knew about MJ after his last breath...yap..many of us grew up with his song..especially "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" era mid 80s..his poster become the "must have" at the school dorm and his hair style (the front one)..and the rayban..

Exora..finally has arrived in the showroom. It provide more options to Malaysian..people like me to own bigger car at a very affordable price. Looking at design, specs and so on, and more importantly the price of still 5 digits..it could be great to have this new creature..

I let my expert to check the car for me...mr. reuben julian @ barrichelo. he is the most exited customer in the showroom that day..checking here and there.. he said, it is spacious enough for him to run and jump ..and to sleep in comfortably...more importantly..he would not be quarrel with ms vickicivky and kakanicol..for space anymore

At the end he said, why the pedal too far ..i cant touch it...when can i get driving license dad?

December 25th, Chritmas Day usually the most happening day in Kampung Bungan. It is the day when everybody meet everybody...

St Victoria's Chapel, Kampung Bungan

Christmas gathering held every year, organised by the Church committee at the chapel compound after the Christmas morning mass. Every family brings their Christmas goodies, cakes. etc. to be shared with everybody.

This is the most precious time ..to meet up with relatives and friends ..especiallly those working or living in towns.

The highlight of the day will be the lucky draw...the collection from the lucky draw ticket will be contributed to the church fund. The prizes were sponsored by anybody! and sometime won by themselves!

Although the celebration may not be as great as in towns..but the spirit of unity and togetherness of the community make the celebration a memorable one

Good day in the new swimming pool in damai puri for my kids..the newly renovated children pool at damai puri could be a training ground before they go to sunway lagoon..Kuchingites need more this kind of facilities for weekend or school holiday outing..a public one..not the one restricted for "stay-in guests only"...of course we are looking forward to our own a-la sunway lagoon theme park to be built in kuching... as announced by the government!

Makassar Adventure Part 2

Three days meeting in Makassar with tight schedule does not allow us to uncover Makassar to the fullest. The meeting arrangement is perfect, the host has done a fantastic job especially in meeting arrangement and reception.

Suprisingly I reunion with my good friend Halim in Makassar who is representing BDA. He was my Uni Malaya coursemate before.

Lets see what is there in Makassar....

Makassar is famous with its batik..which is called Batik Makassar. The following photos showing sweet Makassar model with some of the latest fashion made of batik.

Food is also something that attracting our attention in Makassar. "Sup tulang lembu" and grill prawn were the main dishes during the dinner.

Coto is one of the "must tasted" food for visitors to Makassar..which tasted like sup power.

We had chance for city tour on the final day after the meeting. The first destination was Rumah Adat in Kabupaten Gowa outside the city. Rumah Adat is actually the Singgahsana or Palace..former residence of the last Sultan of Makassar, Sultan Hassanuddin who governed the territory sometime in the 15th or 16th century. The palace kept all the Sultan's belongings and historical facts and artifacts that show the greatness and the power of the Sultan that time.

The entrance to the Palace..now converted into a Museum..it was made from heavy wooden structure. Those who read the history of Southeast Asia may aware the important role of Makassar in the trading activities in the early days until it attracted the attention of the western conquerors.

The visitors are welcomed to the palace with traditional dance similarly practiced in the early days when the Sultan receive visitors. The Palace is full of an invaluable collections of treasures such as the gold "mahkota" weight at 2.7kg! You can figure out its value based on today's gold price.

Vicky's birthday was delayed as I was on travelling on the 6th November. As my promise, we had simple candle blowing ceremony at RasaMas@Boulevard on the 8th November.

As usual, the BOY whose birthday is in January become the birthday boy..the first blowing the candle.

Welcome to Makassar City

I had the opportunity to attend the regional grouping of BIMP-EAGA meeting in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia recently. Those who read history in secondary school might heard about Makassar...major centre for trade & business activities in the Southeast Asia in the 14th 0r 15th centuries. It has since become the capital city of South Sulawesi.

I joined the Kapit RDO officers visit the Sekapan long house in Belaga and was "introduced" to a set of stones which they claimed as "alive" or what they called "Batu Beranak". According to the local Sekapan people, few years back there were only 2 stones there ..a father and a mother. After several years, the stones delivered smaller stones which subsequently growing big . The locals believed by touching this stones, it can bring luck, especially to infertile couple.

Recently I got chance to tavel to Belaga on official duty. Knowing Belaga only from the Map and Aerial Photo before, I expected a tough ride to Belaga either by river or by land. I decided to go via Bintulu by land cruiser..and what I experienced is not what I always thought of..It just take about 3 hours ride from Bintulu..a comparative distance of Kuching to Betong. Although, we have to spend 2 hours on gravel and earth road (logging road), it is a smooth ride. Rejang River which connects Belaga to Kapit and other parts of State at downriver. It takes about 5 hours ride by express boat from Belaga to Kapit.

Belaga Town, a district and commercial centre that provide services to Belaga folks. District Office, Hospital, Schools, Police Dept., and few other agencies are located here.

A logging road which connects Belaga to Bintulu..become the main accessibility to Belaga town. I was given understand that the road condition has much improved compared to few years back.

while walking around along one of the beijing's busiest street, we stumbled upon an open air type of stall selling exotic foods. they sell various type of ready fried or roasted insects, snakes, sea horse, scorpions, etc.

put aside the snakes, cockroaches or grasshoppers, i can't imagine for myself to swallow a deep fried scorpion..but surprisingly the chinese managed to catch attention of the foreign tourist to taste this poisonous creature

moving out then moving in..thats what my family experienced in the final week of may 2008. after more or less 4 years stay in our semi d house in jalan sultan tengah, we finally moved to our new house at mile 8 1/2. locality wise, it is more strategic location, closer to my kids school, my mrs office and commercial centres.

rev. fr. moses chua blessed our new home on 21 june 2008 with the presence of my family members, relatives and friends. i feel relieved that all the ding dongs on the house with the buyer, banks. lawyers, etc. in almost past 1 year has finally come to an end.

As a government servant I cannot run away from the responsibility to the community as they need my service. Knowing that my area is still lagging behind in terms of development I get myself involved in the JKKK and render my help wherever possible. Recently, I was entrusted to facilitate the JKKK's General Meeting to select new Village Chief and its new "Cabinet". The Village Chief, Encik Justine Gobel has relinquished his post due to old age. The community then selected his younger brother, Encik Edmund Akau, a retired headmaster to take over as a new chief.

The launching of SCORE by YAB Prime Minister on the 11th February 2008 is a historic moment for people in the State especially for us in SPU who have been working very hard to materialise the launching as well as the preparation of the SCORE Development Plan. The preparation was started back in 11th July 2007 when we officially signed the agreement with the consultant for the preparation of the Plan. The Plan will provide framework for the development of the Central Region of Sarawak until 2030, which means that this historic moment will be remembered for as long as 30 years from now.

the car racer is back with a new invention. look at the helmet and where the steering plugged into. this is reuben's real action without guidance from anybody. the steering he took from his toy car and placed it on the flag's stand and put it at the broken vcd player. he replaced his unique helmet with fernando alonso's PSG cap to get better feeling.

daddi went to china in october 2006 for two weeks, for the aliance for healthy cities meeting and conferences. the meeting is in suzhou, about three hours drive from shanghai. suzhou, with population of more than 5 million, is a city famous with canals and gardens. the canals were built many centuries back, where during that time boat is the major transportation for the chinese. that is why, canals are connecting the houses and its neghbouhoods and the towns. as suzhou is developing, the canals have been preserved by the government and become assets for tourism in suzhou.

in suzhou, there are many huge "ancient towns" from several dynasties, many centuries back, which have been converted into a living museum and attracts tourist from various parts of the world. stepping into these ancient towns, we can feel the ancients living environment where the ancestors lifestyle, culture and heritage are preserved and displayed.

for me age does not matter.....i want to drive..so one day i took daddi's car key..i started the engine..wow...i want to show daddi that underage people also can drive.

but...suddenly i realised...license is license..anybody can drive even without license....but for me...to drive without license also cannot....my feet cannot reach the pedal...nevermindlah...later later lah

vicky: reuben likes car very much..especially sports car. daddi use to bring us eating at sugar bun ..not because he is so generous ...but...you know why... that is the only place around where we can eat "peacefully" without reuben "inteference" on the table....reuben will sit and eat in the sports car during the whole eating session..and he will not jump over the table....unlike when we bring him to other eating places where he jumped up and down

....one day daddi brought us to the city library..reuben found a book on formula 1 - history of the car and its drivers...and we borrow it...reuben sleep with the book at his side....

reuben : i wondering why my daddi's kampung has no road..although daddi said he doing planning for the state..and..even cannot plan for a road in his own kampung....whatever it is..i like this unique kampung experience..we have ROAD ON THE WATER... wahhh... people call it sungai..and we have a car..looks like what people it..a boat is it?.. the best things is ....by boat we will never trapped in a traffic jam like in kuching city...and i really enjoy a "real" fresh air ....not a "refresh" air (ambipured air) in daddi's car everyday
